# "For the goodness, health and health care". Then the motto sounded when Hagabadet was founded in 1876. Over 140 years later, the purpose is still the same, albeit in the form of a modern health club that focuses on quality of life. # It was during the 19th century that an English doctor discovered the connection between good hygiene, clean water and cholera. After this discovery, bath houses were built around Europe. In Gothenburg, which has been repeatedly ravaged by extensive cholera epidemics, the businessman and parliamentarian Sven Rehnström donated SEK 150,000 for the purpose. # This is the reason why Hagabadet, or Renströmska Bad- och Tvättanstalten as it was then called, could look up its gates in 1876.
